England Enacting Its Own Healthcare Reform

The National Health Service (NHS) in England, the publicly funded healthcare system for the country, is in the midst of a complete structural transformation. Many changes will be taking place, but perhaps the most monumental is accountability being embraced by an independent NHS board, taking control away from the government. Another notable change is hospitals are being asked to work outside the NHS to become vibrant industry of social enterprises, under the proposal.


As far as public health is concerned, this will be placed in the hands of local authorities. Health Secretary Andrew Lansley is claiming that these sweeping changes will actually benefit the people and the system in the long run and they hope to make England the purveyor of the best healthcare system in the world.
