Gruppo Ospedaliero San Donato (GSD) is proud to be a Diamond Sponsor of this year’s World Medical Tourism and Global Healthcare Congress and to celebrate 50 years of providing healthcare excellence in Italy.
GSD is the premier provider of health services at all levels of care in all specialties for the Italian National Health System for the last fifteen years, and employs a unique model centered on clinical and academic research to provide individual-based care to everyone.
A History of Gruppo Ospedaliero San Donato
The story of the Gruppo San Donato begins with Dr. Luigi Rotelli who – half a century ago – combined his passion for healing others with his entrepreneurial spirit to build the Istituto di Cura Città di Pavia followed by the Policlinico San Donato, creating the initial hospitals that formed GSD. In the 1980’s Professor Giuseppe Rotelli – Dr. Rotelli’s son – took over for his father’s work.
Today, GSD employs 15,303 people including 4,092 physicians across 18 hospitals with 5,300 beds – and is first private healthcare group in Italy capable of managing 4 million patients a year.
A Patient-Centered Approach
Improving scientific research is crucial to finding more effective and innovative treatments. For this reason, researchers and doctors from GSD work together to develop targeted care, with the aim of personalizing medicine and keeping the focus on the patient.
With 170 professors and researchers instructing 2,690 students and 460 residents, they publish 1,603 scientific articles per year and almost 8,000 impact factor points.
Despite being on the cutting edge of science and research, GSD has never forgotten that the patient is a person with a body, mind, and cultural heritage. Their personalized care still drives their approach to medicine today.
GSD employs the best techniques and technology available at an international level. GSD’s unique model is centered on the patient, and combines clinical, academic and research excellence to provide the very best tailor-made care to everyone.
