As healthcare costs continue to rise and patients seek greater access to specialized treatments, medical travel is becoming an increasingly attractive option. Organizations that simplify the process and provide trusted guidance are helping patients feel more confident about receiving care abroad while removing many of the barriers traditionally associated with international healthcare.
TreVita is one such organization. By connecting U.S. clients with vetted clinics and trusted physicians in Baja California, Mexico, TreVita coordinates every aspect of the medical travel experience so patients can focus on their health and recovery. Medical Tourism Magazine recently spoke with the TreVita team about their mission, services, and vision for the future of medical travel.
Q: What do you do, and how has your experience in the healthcare industry been?
A: TreVita is a medical tourism company built to remove the barriers and provide innovative solutions that help people achieve outcomes far greater than imagined. We connect U.S. clients with vetted clinics and trusted physicians in Baja California, Mexico, and we handle the logistics so they can focus on their health and recovery.
We envision a world where healthspan is maximized and lives are changed positively. Our experience in this space has taught us that the biggest barriers to care are rarely medical—they're logistical, financial, and emotional. Working at the U.S.–Mexico border has shown us how much is possible when clients are given a safe, well-coordinated path to treatment, and that's what continues to drive us.
Q: How many international patients do you receive per year?
A: We receive an average of 360 clients per year, and that number grows each year.
Q: What regions or countries do patients come from?
A: The vast majority of our clients come from the United States, and we bring them down to Baja California, Mexico—specifically Tijuana and Zona Río—for procedures that either aren't available in the U.S., aren't affordable, or aren't covered by insurance.
We've had a handful of clients from Canada, but those are rare. Our marketing and outreach have focused primarily on the U.S., and because of the proximity, California has been our strongest market. Clients in the California region tend to be more familiar with Mexican culture and more comfortable with the safety of Tijuana.
Q: Do you have any patient stories you would want to include in the article?
A: We have many stories worth highlighting. One you are welcome to use is Stefanie Basso, which you can find here in written form, and here in video form.
Q: How do you see the future of medical travel?
A: As the world keeps evolving and our society continues to change, we're seeing people grow more comfortable crossing borders and exploring what other countries and cultures have to offer.
The U.S.–Mexico border, in particular, has always been a focal point, and it's one of the most heavily traveled borders in the world. A growing number of Americans now see Tijuana as a safe place to explore alternatives that aren't available or accessible at home—and that number keeps climbing.
We believe medical travel has enormous room to grow as more people feel confident and safe seeking care across the border.
Q: What is something unique that you, as a healthcare provider, do?
A: Safety sits at the center of everything we do, and we think about it on several levels. It's not just about helping our clients feel secure traveling to a country with a different language, culture, and healthcare system—it's also about making sure the doctors we partner with create that same sense of safety, answering every question promptly and thoroughly.
Through follow-up calls, we make sure our clients feel cared for and supported after their procedure, too.
Q: What services do you offer to medical travelers?
A: We handle all the logistics so our clients can focus on what matters most: their health and recovery. That includes coordinating with doctors, scheduling appointments, private transportation from San Diego's airport down to Tijuana, any local travel needed for the procedure, a medical pass for seamless border crossing, a bilingual concierge, and a full year of follow-up calls.
Throughout the process, we stay close to our clients so we can quickly address any complications or concerns and help them get the care they came for.
Q: What medical procedures do you offer?
A: We currently offer four service lines, with plans to expand:
- Stem Cell Therapy
- Plastic Surgery
- Hair Restoration
- Bariatric Surgery
